The Ultimate Twin-Unit Mobile Homes: Quality, Comfort, and Sustainability

Introduction

Twin-unit mobile homes have come a long way in recent years, with manufacturers focusing on creating durable and sustainable structures that offer the comforts and quality of a traditional residential home. These mobile homes are designed to last over 100 years and provide an unparalleled living experience, unmatched by commercial park homes or imported log cabins. This article will outline the specifications of these high-quality twin-unit mobile homes and explain what makes them stand out from the competition.

Frame Materials

The structural timber used in these mobile homes comes from Scandinavian softwood from sustainable sources. The timber is treated with preservatives in accordance with BS 5268 Part 5 1976 to meet current building regulation requirements. Sheathing is 9mm thick OSB (Orientated Strand Board). All timber and wood-based products used in these mobile homes are FSC/PEFC certified.

External Walls

External walls are manufactured in panels with 150mm thickness, similar to a new-build house. The wall panels are designed to provide maximum insulation, ensuring a comfortable living environment in all weather conditions. Breather membranes pre-fixed to the panels provide additional protection and conform to BS4016 1966 standards.

Internal Walls

Internal walls are manufactured as 2400mm nominal height panels, providing ample space for everyday living. Walls along the central axis of the unit are designed for easy separation, should the need arise. The walls are insulated with 100mm glass-wool insulation, providing a comfortable and energy-efficient living space.

Roof Components

The roof construction features 45x150mm roof joists supported by a composite glulam ridge beam, with an 11mm OSB deck, felt, and batten. The roof is insulated with 150mm glass-wool insulation. Other features include Cambrian slate tiles, galvanized steel rainwater goods, and optional Kingspan or solid foam insulation board throughout.

Internal Linings

The internal linings consist of 12mm foil back plasterboard, with 12mm moisture-resistant plasterboard for bathrooms. The tape and joint finish ensures a clean, modern look, and the walls can be painted with Dulux paint in the color of your choice.

Electrics and Plumbing

The twin-unit mobile homes come with 1st and 2nd fix electrics, including a 17th edition consumer unit, sockets, bathroom extract fans, and ceiling downlights. Plumbing includes a combination boiler, radiators, and connections for soil pipes and vents.

Toilet and Bathrooms

Standard white toilets, shower units, baths, and sinks are fitted in bathrooms and en-suites. Walls are half-tiled, and floors are tiled for easy cleaning. Chrome taps and glass/chrome shower glass provide a modern finish.

Floor Finish & Internal Carpentry

100% wool carpet is fitted in bedrooms and hallways, with oak veneered engineered flooring in living rooms and travertine floor tiles in kitchens. MDF skirting and door surrounds are painted white, and oak veneered internal doors with chrome handles provide a stylish finish.

Kitchen

A fully fitted kitchen from Howdens Range offers 40 styles and any layout. Appliances include a cooker, hob, fridge/freezer, and Belfast sink.

Windows and Doors

External windows and doors are available in various styles, including factory-painted timber, wood effect, or white plastic or aluminum-clad softwood. All windows are double glazed and come with a ten-year warranty.

External Cladding

Numerous external cladding options are available, including renders, composite board, natural timber, larch, cedar, softwood, and even slip brick stonework for a stone-finished mobile home.

We build Mobile Homes with the same materials, wall thicknesses, insulation and internal finishes as a normal new-build residential house, whist still conforming to the definition of a Mobile Home / Caravan, making them probably the best quality mobile homes available. These buildings have a lifespan of well over 100 years. They're not like most commercial park homes and static caravans that depreciate and deteriorate at a much quicker rate or the imported log cabins. The walls are 150mm thick, just like a new-build house, and fully insulated.

Our interiors are plaster-boarded and finished like conventional homes, giving the clean, solid interior and modern feel that most commercially manufactured caravans lack.

Our chassis are made of super thick timber beams instead of the metal chassis with wheels that most caravans have, this gives less movement and a greater structural integrity, it feels more solid under the foot, it also allows the building to sit much lower to the base. The tow-bar and wheels are detachable. When finished these mobile homes don't look any different from a regular building, both inside and out.
